ISLAM
Islam is a religion that teaches belief in one God, called Allah in Arabic. Muslims believe that God created everything and that people should live their lives by following His guidance. The holy book of Islam is the Qur’an, which Muslims believe was revealed by God as a guide for how to live with kindness, honesty, and justice. Followers of Islam are called Muslims, and they practice five main duties known as the Five Pillars of Islam: declaring faith in one God, praying five times a day, giving charity to the poor, fasting during the month of Ramadan, and making a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca at least once in their lifetime if they are able.
Islam shares many similarities with other religions that also believe in one God, such as Judaism and Christianity. Muslims believe that Moses (Pease be upon Him, known as Musa in Arabic) and Jesus (Pease be upon Him, known as Isa) were important prophets sent by God to guide people before the time of Muhammad (Peace be upon Him). They believe Moses brought the message of the Ten Commandments and that Jesus was born miraculously and taught love, mercy, and faith in God. However, Muslims do not believe Jesus was the son of God, but rather a prophet, just like others who came before him.
The final prophet in Islam is Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), who lived in Arabia over 1,400 years ago. Muslims believe that Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) received the final and complete message of God through the angel Gabriel, and this message is written in the Qur’an. His life and teachings serve as a model for Muslims on how to live in peace, fairness, and devotion to God. Islam teaches that all prophets, from Adam (Peace be upon Him) to Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), brought the same message—to worship one God and live righteously. Through faith, prayer, and good actions, Muslims strive to build a strong connection with God and to create a world filled with compassion and justice.
